We are......

Entry 06
Cultured
I learned that we are all very similar yet vastly different.
There are many traits, behaviors and customs practiced around the world, each place has its own variation and input in shaping it and ultimately claiming it and making it their own. There are a few that are universal in my opinion.
One being family- love and hate in different languages and settings, to me, fundamentally remain the same and have the same effects on persons. Blood is certainly thicker than water.
Food- this helps bind us. It is a necessity, something common in which we all share and enjoy. It is basic for our survival and is used as a tool for interacting and sharing thoughts, emotions, knowledge and beliefs. Food and what we eat helps to shape our identity as a collective society.
Music- has transcended and broken barriers between cultures in a way that nothing else has. The sound, the arrangement, the connection placed on intonation, pitch and volume – which all seeks out a core emotion and stillness inside of each of us. There is no language like music to connect us.
Art, this also stirs us, makes us wonder. Includes us and draws us into a world that is different and new and fresh. We all long for the places and time that art and its appreciation can take us.
In the ever expanding and contracting world, fashion has sewn the fabric of society where now in the tropics we are influenced but the mode of wear as in Europe and America. Snow boots where there is no snow and over layered and sized coats that are not practical in the heat, fashion it seems however is worth its weight in sweat.
There are many aspects in which we are similar for example sport, gender roles, context and religion. Let us all learn to appreciate and respect our differences.
